Nancy began dancing professionally in shows and musicals in her teens and was a featured dancer in the musical number America at Opryland USA. She also started line dancing while working with her country music band, Nancy Hays & the Sawyer Brothers Band.
In the 1990s Nancy began recording and performing music that was specifically designed for dancers and produced her own ballroom and line dance series of DVDs and CDs featuring music she was performing for live audiences. Her series The Romance of Dance drew national attention and her products were featured in an infomercial on Fit TV and on various shopping networks. As a sought after dance instructor and entertainer, Nancy was hired to make appearances on TV shows on ABC, the Discovery Channel, Fox, WGN, Wild Chicago and others. Her products also were reviewed favorably by The Washington Post, the LA Times, The Chicago Tribune, the Las Vegas Sun, Variety, Billboard and many other publications. On NBC Nancy taught Mario Lopez, Danny Bonaduce, and David Cassidy how to Salsa with style.

Following media success with The Romance of Dance, Nancy produced many ballroom dancing events and was hired to perform her own ballroom show in Las Vegas with the full Caesar’s Palace Orchestra in the Circus Maximus Showroom. Nancy is one of the only act’s in Caesar’s history to stage her show with the audience dancing along with her concert in that venue. Nancy continues dancing in professional theater shows including Boy from Oz, Mame, Gypsy, Pirates of Penzance and others.

Nancy’s music found a huge line dance audience when she introduced the song “Come Dance with Me”. The song (choreographed by renowned instructor Jo Thompson) has gone on to be a classic and is considered one of the most popular line dances in the world. “Come Dance with Me” won the Crystal Boot Award in the U.K. in 2024 and is covered by other artists throughout Europe. Nancy’s second country music CD, “Get in Line” features partnerships with several famous choreographers who have created dances to her music (click on “Stepsheets” in this section). Many of Nancy’s songs have been featured in line dance magazines and she has also performed on an exclusive line dance cruise in the Caribbean and for National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Nancy has performed five tours of the U.K. and often appears at festivals performing for line dancers who truly love her music. In December of 2016 Nancy performed along side Jo Thompson at the Las Vegas Dance Explosion with an attendance of over 2,000 dancers!” More recently, she has made TV show appearances teaching line dancing on daytime talk shows in Chicago.
